What happens when you outsource your editing?

If you’re reading this, perhaps you’re thinking of outsourcing some (or all) of your video editing work. While it’s a different process for everybody, and works in different ways, I wanted to share a few of the reasons my clients have passed their editing across to me, and what happened for them once I lightened their load.

More time to focus on filming

If you’re a videographer or filmmaker trying to grow your business, working with an editor can open up more time in your diary for more clients, more shoot days, and bigger projects. I’ve been privileged to offer my services to a diverse range of growing businesses, providing reliable editing support behind the scenes, leaving time for those videographers to do what they do best!

I absolutely loved the films she made for me, they are so gorgeous and they fit with my vibe and my style. It's been a huge relief for me and it frees me up to do more shooting of weddings, knowing I'm not going to be held up at the editing stage. Plus she's just such a nice person to work with as well.

More time to spend with family

when my daughter was born I realised that my time for editing was an odd half an hour here and there, which I could successfully edit images in, but the videos needed more attention than random half hour slots here and there.

This is when I started looking for a video editor…

This is possibly the reason I hear the most. Whether you’ve added videography to your existing photography business, like Charlotte did, or you’re experiencing a change to your usual lifestyle (eg. a new arrival, getting another job alongside videography, caring responsibilities) outsourcing part of your editing workflow can be a lifeline. Clients with chronic illnesses and ADHD have told me these are reasons they struggle with the editing part of their videography business, and I’m of the firm belief that we really don’t all have the same 24 hours in a day, so if you’re finding it difficult to balance everything, reach out and we’ll have a chat. There is never any judgement from me.

Remember; almost all successful businesses are a team effort, and so many videographers and photographers are trying to do fifteen jobs at once by themselves!

…she has been the key to allowing me to be a full time mum and full time business owner.

More confidence to deal with the hard days

Help! I’ve messed up when filming a wedding and now I don’t know how to put a film together from this.

It happens more than you’d think. Often after a challenging shoot, my clients will come to me concerned about how to salvage their footage. Now, while I’m by no means a magician, I am a fresh pair of eyes, and - over 13 years - someone who has seen a LOT of things go wrong (and been called upon to fix them).

Nothing much phases me anymore.

Send it over.

I had two wedding videography jobs where the footage that came in from a third party was extremely under par and felt impossible to edit with. … I wanted to somehow perform some kind of wizardry on the footage but couldn’t see how. … When I went to Rachel for help, I was too close to the projects and couldn’t see how it was possibly rectifiable.

I gave Rachel a very emotional explanation - through actual tears - and she listened and took copious notes before telling me she could help and then adding “don’t worry - I love a challenge”.... Then, ten days later she sent over a completely re-edited film which completely blew me away. She had worked on all the footage and had somehow enhanced it and made it work. In fact, she’d managed to make it magical.

She has done this not only once for me, but on two separate weddings.

More flexibility in your life

It’s been such a relief to have someone I can trust to support behind the scenes

Wedding professionals! When was the last time you took a guilt-free holiday in the summer?

If you did…how many times did you open your laptop while on that holiday?

I’ve been there - and I take my holidays in the spring - so I can only imagine how you feel.

But, it genuinely brings me joy when I see my clients jetting off to live their lives, safe in the knowledge that it won’t impact their edit schedule.

My only regret is not outsourcing to Rachel sooner. I would highly recommend any wedding videographer to consider Rachel. She’s an absolute pleasure to work with and I look forward to many years of working together with her.
